Long Grove Preschool Option -Board of Jewish Education
Parents looking for a Jewish-based preschool program may want to take a look at the Board of Jewish Education preschool program located at Congregation Beth Judea, at the corner of Hilltop and Route 83 in Long Grove. The Board of Jewish Education sponsors the preschool offerings which are held in a bright, cheery section of the synagogue. A full playground is located next to the BJE classrooms in a wooded setting.
Children as young as 15 months can attend the Mom & Tot program which meets once a week. Youngsters and their caregivers participate in a variety of age-appropriate activities. This Long Grove preschool program aims to get the youngsters comfortable in a social setting with peers and experiment with music, art, and limited structured class time in the form of “circle time.”
As children get older, the BJE program grows with them. Two year olds have class twice per week and parents & the children work towards separation from their caregivers as the school year progresses. Three and four year olds meet three times per week. Pre-kindergarteners attend school Monday through Friday, just as they will when they begin their elementary school years. Enrichment programs are also offered for students, extending the school day.
Program Director Janet Sear told me that, “The program is Judaically inspired and prepares the children for success as lifelong learners.” There is a ratio of seven students per teacher, providing plenty of guidance and attention from the teaching staff. The Emilia Reggio-modeled program has a very strong early literacy and pre-math curriculum. Enrollment for the current school is approximately 100 students.
Erin of Arlington Heights said, “Both of my children have had great experiences at BJE. The teachers do a fantastic job of creating a welcoming, comfortable atmosphere for the kids to learn and they communicate well with the parents. Academically they prepare the kids well for kindergarten in a unique and fun environment. My son is thriving in kindergarten this year, and I appreciate all that BJE did to prepare him for his elementary school years.”
